Paradise Valley defeats Vista Grande in girls hoops

Paradise Valley's girls basketball team ended their season at home with dominating win against the Vista Grande Spartans, 45-26.
The Trojans started and ended the game with a high run of points. They were coming off a win over North Canyon.
“We definitely took the energy from the close game against North Canyon, our rivals, and showed up tonight with it,” said Trojans coach Brittany Fulk.
The Trojans started the first quarter with back-to-back layups and chances at the free throw line, allowing them to lead early.
The Spartans had difficulty overcoming the height disadvantage against the Trojans. For every shot they attempted, Trojans center Kaycee Wondra was there for a block.
Wondra made 14 of the 45 points for the Trojans, but her height was a bigger advantage.
The first quarter ended with the Trojans on a 13-point run.
“Baskets, baskets, baskets, we took a lot of shots we just couldn’t get them in the hole,” said Spartans coach Mark Revelle.
The rojans continued to advance their lead over the Spartans in the second quarter.
While the Spartans showed their speed and ability to move wherever the ball took them, it didn’t outweigh their missed shots.
With 6:55 left to go in the second quarter, the Trojans led 23-5.
Trojans player Zoe Lesher believes the home crowd worked in her team's favor.
“We just had to stay focused. Last week against North Canyon it was crazy and if we would’ve focused on the distractions we wouldn’t have left with a win, so we just have to stay focused," she said.
As the second quarter came to an end, the Trojans had a 25-point lead of 33-8.
The Spartans were at a disadvantage with their number of players as well.
“I give Vista Grande a lot of credit only having six players,” said Fulk, “they played a great game tonight and their endurance definitely showed.”
The third quarter went by slower than the others, however halftime is just what the Spartans needed. They returned with more fight and confidence in their shots.
“Tonight they didn’t quit, they’re going to go into next year with better fundamentals,” said Revelle.
Revelle also said before this season many of the girls had never played before and he was proud to see how much they’ve learned.
Although Spartans began to fight back, the Trojans continued their lead into the fourth quarter by 23 points.
“They started to make their shots in the second half and with only six players they had to have been tired,” said Fulk, “but we definitely had to pick up our defense and finish out.”
Paradise Valley finished strong.
“We ended this season on a really high note,” said Fulk. “We battle every game until the final buzzer and we came out on top tonight.”
