It took 100 minutes and the 17th pick for former Mountain Pointe standout and University of Utah all-American C.J. Cron to get selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball first-year player draft.

C.J. Cron, who batted .434  for  third-best in the nation this season collegiately in Division I, was pretty much a consensus top 20 pick in the first round prior to the draft. Many mock drafts had C.J. Cron going to Colorado (the 20th pick).

C.J. Cron pitched and caught for Mountain Pointe High, graduating in 2008 and playing the last three seasons at Utah where he was a freshman all-American in 2009 an all-American the last two. C.J. Cron was selected Mountain West Conference player of the year for the recently completed regular season. He figures to play first base professionally.

Younger brother Kevin Cron, the consensus prep player of the year this past season in Arizona, figures to be selected at least in the early couple rounds of the draft. Kevin Cron helped lead Mountain Pointe to the 5A-I state title this season belting 27 home runs and setting home run records with his predigious power stroke.
