Karen Self has guided the Seton Catholic Sentinels to seven state championships including three of the last four. This year, however, Vail Cienega is 29-0 and seeded No. 1 while Seton Catholic (26-5) is the No. 2 seed.

If both teams make it through the 24-team bracket it will be a repeat of last year's final where the Sentinels outlasted Cienega 37-30. The Bobcats are coached by first-year coach Matt Ruiz and he brings senior standouts Treyanna Clay and Destiny Richardson to the court while Self will counter with freshman sensation Sarah Barcello and sophomore Jenn Wirth.

But there are plenty of matchups and difficult teams before anyone can think of the final game so let's look at the other top 10 teams in Division II:

No. 3 Phoenix Thunderbird (28-2) was the No. 4 seed last year but did not make it out of the second round. Look for the trio of juniors Brianna Lehew, Ozahria Fisher and Jazmine Covington to rebound this year. All three are scoring in double figures.

No. 4 Flagstaff (22-5) shoots plenty of 3-pointers and head coach Tyrone Johnson substitutes freely. Two big losses to Seton Catholic and Thunderbird before the winter break was followed by a record of 16-1 to end the regular season.

No. 5 Tucson (23-5) has come close to making the playoffs but this year they vaulted all the way to a first-round bye. Led by junior Alexis Cortez and senior Bailey Johnson, the Badgers look to make plenty of noise this year. Cortez is averaging over 25 points a game and is approaching 1,700 career points.

No. 6 Phoenix Sierra Linda (26-3) was the No. 2 seed last year but was upset in the second round. Freshman Janae Gonzales is averaging over 16 points a game and senior Kaylah Burrows is just under 13 points a game.

No. 7 Yuma Cibola (20-9) fell to the powerful Cienega squad in the quarterfinals last year and this year they will face Seton Catholic if both teams make it that far. Senior Malacah Jackson is averaging 14.5 points per game.

No. 8 Cave Creek Cactus Shadows (22-7) only won 11 games last year but head coach Richie Willis has rebounded with a first-round bye. Caitlin Bickle is only a freshman but she leads the team with over 13 points a game.

No. 9 Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge (23-7) has a good shot at meeting up with Cienega in the quarterfinals but the Nighthawks need to get there first. Junior Lexy Ram is difficult to guard, senior guard Alyssa Madlangbayan is a 3-point shooter and senior guard Piper Mali will guide the team.

No. 10 Tucson Sahuaro (25-4) is a stronger team than their No. 10 seed implies. Junior Sydney Harden controls the inside with 17 points a game and sophomore Elena Arriaga has made 55 3-pointers to lead the team from the outside.

No. 11 Marana and No. 14 Tucson Pueblo can cause major problems from Southern Arizona as can No. 12 Maricopa and No. 13 Casa Grande. One of these teams just might breakthrough.
