June 3, 2014 by MaxPreps, AZPreps365
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore pitcher Nicole Williams (St. Joseph (Trumbull, Conn.), senior first baseman Marleah Fossett (Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter (Indianapolis, Ind.), sophomore pitcher/infielder Makayla Burlingame (Auburn (Riner, Va.), senior pitcher/first baseman Hagan Burns (South Laurel (London, Ky.) and sophomore pitcher Devyn Magnett (Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over May 26-June 1.
East Region
Williams continued her impressive play for the Cadets, batting .400 (4-for-10) with three RBIs, while posting a 3-0 pitching record with a 0.33 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 21 innings of work. During the week, she registered a pair of 2-for-4 efforts at the plate in wins over New Canaan and Darien while also twirling complete games. For the season, Williams is 22-1 from the circle with 162 strikeouts over 125 innings and is hitting .403 with 12 RBIs.
North Region
It's virtually impossible to be as locked in at the plate as Fossett was last week for the Raiders as she went a perfect 10-for-10 at the dish with 10 runs scored, a staggering eight HR's and 13 RBIs over just three contests. During a 14-0 victory over Irvington Preparatory Academy, she was 3-for-3 with three HR's and five RBIs, but amazingly, one-upped that effort in a 22-0 rout of Indianapolis Crispus Attucks by going 4-for-4 with four HR's and seven RBIs. Overall, Fossett is batting .671 with 42 runs scored, 12 doubles, 15 HR's and 47 RBIs.
South Region
Burlingame posted a perfect 3-0 mark from the circle for the Eagles with a no-hitter, a 1.00 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 21 innings of work, while hitting .429 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs. The sophomore twirled her initial no-no of the year in a 9-1 victory over Covington as she struck out a season-high 11. For the year, she is 19-3 overall with a 2.23 ERA, 138 K's over 131.2 frames, while hitting .308 with 10 RBIs.
South Central Region
Burns guided the Cardinals last week by going 3-0 from the circle with a 0.39 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 18 frames, while hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a double and three RBIs. Perhaps her finest effort came during a 5-0 shutout of Clay County as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI while striking out 15 during a complete-game, three-hit shutout. Thus far in 2014, Burns is 24-3 overall with a 0.48 ERA and 177 K's over 145 frames while batting at a .447 clip with 15 extra-base hits and 40 RBIs.
West Region
Magnett was a perfect 4-0 in the circle for the Dons, striking out 21 over 30 innings of work with a 0.93 ERA. She worked all nine frames of a 2-1 victory over Fallbrook and struck out a season-high 10 during a 9-1 rout of Otay Ranch. She currently owns a 25-3 overall mark with a 0.49 ERA and 125 K's over 172 innings of effort.
