Jalen Brown on Mountain Pointe (Phoenix) didn't accomplish this season, and Thursday he was awarded for his efforts.
Brown, a 6-foot-2, 178-pound junior wide receiver and safety, was selected the Arizona football player of the year by Gatorade. He is the first player from Mountain Pointe chosen for the honor, and he is now eligible for the national player of the year.
Brown had 68 receptions for 1,235 yards and 18 touchdowns, and on defense he accounted for 25 tackles and five interceptions for the Division I state runners-up.
"Jalen Brown is a stud," Corona Del Sol head coach Tom Joseph said in the announcement release. "He is tough to cover and a great young man. He is the best receiver we saw this year."
