These days there's nothing quite like the Perry-Basha basketball rivalry in Arizona.

There's also no team quite like the three-time defending champion Pumas.

It was all on display Friday evening in a Premiere region doubleheader at Basha.

Perry forward D'andre Harrison scored 25 for the Pumas who took down the Bears, 75-61 in front of such an overflow, that fans had to be turned away by the second half of the girls game, also won by Perry.

Basha guard Mason Magee offset Harrison's 25 points, but Perry also got 18 apiece from Koa Peat and guard Dominic Avalos.

Basha freshman guard Domingo Montague added 17 points, but the Bears couldn't keep up with Perry's interior and perimeter balance.

"We just have to give whatever the defense gives us," said Peat, the 6-8 forward who also directs the offense from the point at time.

Harrison got things going early with an array of dunks and efficient inside scoring.

Magee got hot in the second quarter as Basha pulled within two points. But Perry always had a response. A four-point play from Avalos gave momentum back to the Pumas at halftime.

Montague picked up the hot hand in the the third quarter for the Bears, but Perry always answered when needed.

For Basha (12-5) it was its first loss of the year to an Arizona team.

"We've had some battles with Perry and this is the best atmosphere in the state," Basha coach Mike Grothaus said.

"It's going to take a near perfect game for anyone to knock them off this year."
