CAMP VERDE — Jordan Fullmer scored 37 points, Tristan Clarke added eight on a pair of threes and Camp Verde made quick work of BASIS Phoenix in a 61-28 win Friday night.

It is the fifth win in seven games for the Cowboys (9-8, 1-0 2A Central), which have solid wins against Blue Ridge and Show Low in a transition year for a program that finds itself back in the 2A for the first time since the 2019-2020 season.

Camp Verde has historically played out of the 2A conference, but made the transition to 3A in 2020-2021.

Fullmer was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line, and netted 27 of his 37 in the first half. The senior even hit a 3-pointer, something he worked on during the offseason.

“I’m always working on threes, something that I like to do,” Fullmer said, adding the goal for the Cowboys is to play tough for 32 minutes.

“Our goal is definitely to get to the [state] playoffs. We need to keep playing tough for 32 minutes a game.”

Longtime head coach Dan Wall said his senior forward had a “lot of energy” against the Firebirds.

“When he locks in, he can be super hard to guard. He’s got a huge game, he can shoot it a little bit, he can get to the rim. And when he’s active on the glass like that he’s a very difficult [to account for],” Wall said.

Camp Verde led 17-8 after the first quarter of play and Clarke capped an 9-0 run to start the second period with a 3-pointer from the left wing to give his club a 26-8 lead and BASIS Phoenix never recovered.

“I’m really excited for the steps we’re taking. We lost a tough one to North Valley [Christian], but I am really pleased with how our kids are going,” Wall said. “With 11 games left in the next four weeks, we’re going to see pretty soon what we’re made of.”

Camp Verde lost 86-62 against North Valley Christian on Thursday night.
