Salpointe senior Leo Gutierrez leads the state with 26 goals in only 12 matches to help lead the Lancers to an 11-1 record overall. His over-two-goals-an-outing is fueled by five hat tricks, including four in a row, to help guide the team to a championship at the TUSD Ismael Arce Memorial Cup.

Gutierrez recorded a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Desert View in the semifinal round Saturday morning at Tucson High and he added another goal in an 8-0 win over Flowing Wells in the championship match later that night. Santiago Perez put the match away with two goals in the fifth and 12th minute.

Overall, Gutierrez has 20 hat tricks with 137 goals in only 86 matches in his career. He holds the Arizona 3A-6A career goal record after passing the 134 scored by former Northwest Christian standout Michael Huss from 2017-2020. Former Blue Ridge standout Tommy Pederson holds the overall record with 154 goals from 2017-2020.

Salpointe plays at Tucson (2-6-2) on Jan. 8.
