Douglas girls and Palo Verde boys win Time to Fly Soccer Classic

The Douglas girls went 6-0 to capture the championship of the Time to Fly Soccer Classic including a 2-0 win over Sahuarita in the championship match on Saturday. The Bulldogs outscored opponents 20-2 at the tournament with sophomore keeper America Romero coming up with six saves in the championship match alone to come through with the clean sheet.
Senior Milan Hunt scored in the seventh minute and Dominique Muñoz scored in the 34th for the 2-0 victory. Sahuarita had nine shots in the match and Douglas had five. Douglas travels to Pueblo on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Warriors went 0-3-1 at the tournament.
Sahuarita (5-1) will visit Desert View on Dec. 4. The Jaguars went 1-3 at the tournament.

On the boy’s side, Palo Verde beat Douglas 2-1 to win the championship at the tournament. The Titans went 1-0-3 in pool play before beating Desert View 3-1 in the semifinal match to set up the final. Douglas went 2-1-1 in pool play before beating Rio Rico 1-0 in the semifinal round Saturday morning.
Palo Verde went up 1-0 on a goal from Shukuru Charone in the sixth minute, Ricardo Miranda tied it up 1-1 in the 24th and Ibrahim Mahamat scored the winning goal for the Titans in the 50th.
Palo Verde will travel to Sahuaro on Dec. 4. The Cougars went 0-4 at the tournament, including a 7-0 loss to the Titans. Douglas will host Pueblo on Dec. 4 and this will be the first match of the season for the Warriors.
