Until somebody else steps up, the 6A West Valley Region belongs to Shadow Ridge.

The formidable Tolleson Wolverines attempted to stall the Stallions but to no avail Monday during a blustery outing in Surprise. Shadow Ridge extended its region win streak to 15 after an 8-2 home win over the Wolverines, leaving Maricopa and the Stallions as the only teams without a West Valley Region loss. 

“Today was a total team effort,” Shadow Ridge coach Kortny Hall said. “I’m super proud of them and how they played, moving runners around and getting those key hits. We really pushed ourselves.”

Every starter in Hall’s lineup reached base, including No. 9 hitter Jadyn Scott, the team’s starting pitcher.

Scott reached base a team-high three times, pitched a complete game and atoned for her 2023 performance against Tolleson.

“This is one of my favorite games,” Scott said. “We are rivals. Last year it was a tight game. For me it wasn’t great and had to be taken out. But coming into this year, knowing we were going to play again, we came in with a great mentality and came out and played hard.”

The junior was backed by a defense that committed only one error, which led to an unearned run, and an offense that tallied eight hits.

Left fielder Madilyn Gentner made a highlight reel over the shoulder running catch in the fourth inning. And one of Shadow Ridge’s hits was an inside the park home run by cleanup hitter Destiny Johnston in the third inning to up her team's lead to 4-1 after three innings.

On Wednesday, Tolleson (16-7, 4-1) will get another shot at the Stallions knowing that it didn’t execute Monday night, with fielding errors leading to early runs for its opponent.

Lack of timely hitting also hurt the Wolverines, who had nine hits and walked six times. One of the bright spots for the squad was sophomore cleanup hitter Marina Lara’s performance (2-3, solo home run, one walk).

The other undefeated team in the West Valley Region, Maricopa, will end its regular season with a two series against Shadow Ridge (14-4-1, 5-0) later this month.
