PRESCOTT VALLEY — Josh Khazaal was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs as Bradshaw Mountain baseball earned a season-series split with rival Flagstaff in an 11-1 win Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears (21-4, 10-1 4A Grand Canyon) used a five-run rally in the fourth and plated four more runs in the sixth to avenge a 4-3 loss to the same Eagles club a week ago among the pines of Flagstaff.

Nate Ramirez was brilliant on the mound for the Bears, pitching five strong innings of one-run baseball while allowing three hits and striking out 10.

He did allow six walks, but every time the No. 9-ranked Bears got into trouble defensively, they seemed to wiggle out of it.

Shane Lievsay was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Wes Collier collected two hits and scored twice in the win.

Flagstaff’s Heath Lopez was 2 for 4 and an RBI in the loss.

In game one April 14, No. 12 Flagstaff plated three runs in the fifth inning to pull off a 4-3 upset of their rival. The loss halted Bradshaw Mountain’s 12-game win streak.

Heath Lopez pitched a gem for Flagstaff, going seven innings strong while allowing only two earned runs and two strikeouts.

Bradshaw Mountain ends the regular season with a two-game set this week against rival No. 19 Prescott (13-8, 8-3 4A Grand Canyon).

The Bears won game one April 18, 6-2, and face the Badgers at home in Prescott Valley on April 20. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

Flagstaff finishes the regular season schedule with two against Coconino in the next week.

With the 4A state play-in round starting April 26, Grand Canyon region fans may see Bradshaw Mountain, Flagstaff, Prescott and Coconino finish within the No. 9-24 seeding. Only the Top 8 power point teams get an automatic placement into the state playoffs. A region champion is only guaranteed a state play-in spot, per AIA bylaws.

3A: RIVER VALLEY 8, KINGMAN ACADEMY 7

KINGMAN — Hunter Koehler was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Gavin Hogencamp added two RBIs and River Valley continued its winning ways with an 8-7 win over Kingman Academy.

It is the 11th straight win for the Dust Devils (17-8, 9-2 3A West), which are now ranked No. 5 in the 3A conference overall.

River Valley led 8-0 through four innings, but nearly surrendered a lead after Kingman Academy scored four in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to make it an 8-7 affair.

Rilee Otto pitched 5-2/3 innings and allowed eight runs, two earned, on six hits and five walks. He gave way to Gauge Short in the sixth, who closed the door on the victory.

River Valley travels to Mohave Accelerated in the regular season finale April 20. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

The 3A state play-in tournament begins April 26, with the state playoffs beginning May 2. This year, 3A state games are single elimination except for the semifinals, which are double.

2A: ROUND VALLEY 2, WILCOX 1

ROUND VALLEY — Ryker Marble had two hits, including a home run, which was the difference in a 2-1 win over Willcox on April 15.

Treyson Merrill was 1 for 3 with an RBI in the victory for the No. 12-ranked Elks (12-9, 7-0 2A North), which have two games left on the regular season schedule.

Ridge Knight toed the mound for Round Valley, allowing only one run on six hits and three strikeouts in a 104-pitch complete game.

The 2A state play-in round begins April 26 with the state championships slated for May 5.

1A: BAGDAD 10, SALOME 0

SALOME — Caleb Gomez and Nick Martinez each had two RBIs to lead Bagdad to its 10th straight victory in a 10-0 rout over Salome on Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 2-ranked Sultans (16-4, 10-0 1A West) used a seven-run rally in the second inning to put the game away.

Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Deegan Owings was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Joseph Gonzalez struck out six in five innings of work for Bagdad as he didn’t allow a run on two hits.

The Sultans host Antelope Union on April 20 before heading east to play rival Williams in the season finale April 25. The No. 3-ranked Vikings (20-5, 5-0 1A North) have won three straight, including a 4-3 win over Needles on Wednesday afternoon.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
