Highland and Campo Verde met on Wednesday night in girls volleyball for just the seventh time. The previous six contests were split, 3-3.

The better of the intracity-rivalry has gone Highland's way of late and did again on this night. Highland won for the fourth consecutive time with a a five-set triumph on Campo's home court. Scores were 27-25, 22-25, 25-16, 23-25 and 15-11. Highland improved to 6-2 overall and is 3-0 in power-ranking matches. Campo Verde is 1-8 overall, 0-3 in prm.

"Campo gave us a battle," Highland coach Tait Neilson said. "They just kept scrapping. It was a learning experience for us. Great experience to play a five-set match."

Highland trailed only once in the final set (2-1) and seemingly took control surging to an 11-5 edge. Campo Verde didn't give in reeling off a 5-0 run capped by a service ace by Gillian Bachali making it 11-10. Neilson called time to settle his team. Junior outside hitter Sage Salazar got the message delivering three kills among Highland's final four points for a 14-11 lead. An attack error by Campo Verde closed the match.

Highland's attack was varied and led by Zoe John with 19 kills. Salazar was next with 12 kills and three others chipped in six kills apiece (Abigail Klinkhammer, Jewel Carling and Jea Genet). John, Kylie Helm and Jaiedyn Rankin posted two aces each. Bachali led Campo in kills with 18 unofficially.

Highland visits Alhambra in a power-ranking match on Thursday and caps a hectic week competing in the Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday hosted by Westwood High. Campo Verde faces another city rival - Gilbert - on Thursday at Gilbert.
