The Williams Field football team has started the season 3-0 and looks to remain undefeated after this friday as they face a top team in the state, Queen Creek.

The last meeting between these teams was last year when Queen Creek beat the Black Hawks 37-6. In this game Williams Field was held to under 200 total yards and four turnovers, including three interceptions by junior quarterback C.J. Tiller.

“I’ve been studying the film on their DBs and their secondary is pretty fast and hustle to the ball but I don’t see anything special in them from any other team I’ve played and their a different team from last year,” Tiller said at practice Wednesday.

When asked about some of his improvements this year compared to last, he said, ”Honestly just being patient, last year I wasn’t that patient and I was playing a little bit scared, this year I’m not scared I’m just playing my game having fun.”

The Black Hawks have been tremendous so far this season on the defensive end, only allowing 26 rushing yards and 138 passing yards per game, along with four interceptions in three games.

Defense will be a huge factor for Williams Field with Queen Creek being one of the top running teams in the state averaging nearly 300 rushing yards per game and only two turnovers on the season. Junior middle linebacker Faimafili Snuka expects a big game from the Williams Field defense.

“I’m looking forward to a shutout, destroying the run game and forcing them to throw it and hopefully we can get a couple picks,” Snuka said.

When asked about what the defense needs to do to stop the Queen Creek run game, Snuka said, “We just got to be physical, that’s the main part of it."

Friday's game will be a dog fight between two of the top teams in the 6A Division. This is a statement game for Williams Field as it is their toughest opponent of the season so far and a chance for them to show they are a serious contender for a state championship.
